The binary distribution of the Tengwar Telcontar Unicode typeface is available for download in the following zip-file:
Current version is 0.07, released on 31 July 2007.
This package contains very little documentation. Instead, please see the tutorial for help and instructions on how to use Tengwar Telcontar. Please do read it, if you haven’t already. It contains information which is crucial to get Tengwar Telcontar working as intended.
Once you have got familiar with the basics of Tengwar Telcontar, you may want to take a look at an example document I’ve prepared (for use in WorldPad). Or you may download the PDF-version of the example file, if you are just curious how it may look.
If you are interested in the technical details, you can download a table which shows all the currently encoded tengwar characters, as well as a discussion paper which describes and discusses details of the current implementation and changes from earlier versions.
Tengwar Telcontar is released under the GNU GPL, and hence the complete source code is available for download. N.B.: If you do not intend to make modifications to the sources, there is no need to recompile them; use the binary distribution instead. There are font files included in the source distribution, but they will not perform any smart rendering.
Please refer to the included files COMPILE.txt and COPYING.txt for compilation instructions and the terms of copying and modifying the sources. DEVEL.txt contains some very rudimentary instructions for developers.
To make it possible to write with Tengwar Telcontar using the keyboard, it is necessary to remap the keys so that tengwar are input insted of latin characters. For this, I have designed a keyboard layout that makes it possible to enter all the currently encoded tengwar characters. As can be seen in the PDF-file which shows the layout, I have tried to map the tengwar to the most logical keys, (e.g., place the tengwa Tinco on the T key), but it has, of course, been necessary to make some compromises.
A keyboard driver is available both for Windows 2000/XP and for Linux. If you upgrade the Windows driver from an earlier version, it is necessary to completely uninstall the previous version first, i.e. revert the installation process by first removing the layout from the list of the layouts in use, and then remove it from Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
